Plant Toxins (also named RIPs), are ribosome-inactivating proteins which inhibits protein synthesis and growth of both normal and tumour cells.
This cell-killing can be rendered highly selective when RIPs are conjugated to vectors, such as monoclonal antibodies, producing chimeric molecules called Immunotoxins.
RIPs, free or conjugated, are a useful tool to study protein synthesis, cell death or to obtain the selective elimination of a given cell type in an heterogenic mixture.

Cobra Venom Factor (CVF) is a strong Complement-activating protein that is purified from the Naja naja kouthia venom.
CVF is a glycoprotein composed of three non-identical disulfide-bonded subunits with mw of 68 kDa (a), 48 kDa (b), and 30 kDa (g). CVF is a structural and functional analog of cobra, as well as mammalian C3. In the presence of Factor B, Factor D, and Mg2+, CVF can form a stable CVF,Bb complex which is a C3/C5 convertase enzyme; however, the CVF,Bb complex is not susceptible to regulation by Factors H and I.
